Mike Fantuz works as an air traffic controller while committing to a painting career. His current series demonstrates a deep love for the landscape from an aerial perspective. Through his paintings he delivers the sense of limitless freedom and possibility flight offers.

A fascination with aerial mapping is the tangible visual force driving his work in which he turns the flatness of the canvas into an arena of deep spatial perspective. Applied with a palette knife in thick swabs of juicy paint, the harmonious tones of Fantuz’s reserved palette lends his scenes a pervasive sense of calm. From this vantage, Mike ruminates on Vancouver’s environment from a bird’s eye view. Away from the particulars of human activity, floating in the expanse, his work offers a renewed perspective of clarity.
